I. CALL TO ORDER  
Chair, Hellen Hinnant-Root called the meeting to order at approximately 6:04 p.m.

II. INTRODUCTIONS  
None.  
III. APPROVAL OF AGENDA  
Motion to approve the agenda made by Hazel Keithahn, seconded by Jiya  
Shetty; motion carried.  
IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES  
September 12, 2023 Minutes  
Motion to approve the September 12, 2023 minutes made by Shubha Gautam,  
seconded by Isabella Shah; motion carried  
V. OLD BUSINESS  
National League of Cities Conference - Staff Update  
Staff received no replies to emails for those who expressed interest in attending the NLC  
Conference. After further discussion it was determined that Emily Crumbliss would like to  
attend.  
City Council Meeting - Attendee Updates  
Shubha Gautam and Langston Schatz-Mitchell attended separate Council meetings and  
brought back their views and thoughts about what was discussed.  
Members discussed who would attend the upcoming Council meetings and it was  
determined that Helen Hinnant-Root will attend the October 16 meeting and Hazel  
Keithan will attend the November 6 meeting. Members then discussed what sort of topics  
relating to the youth they could bring to Council under the reports portion of the agenda.  
Council member Lovelady also mentioned it would be beneficial for a YAC member to  
have a seat on the Violence Prevention Committee. Staff will ask what this process looks  
like.  
Podcast Discussion  
Members discussed moving forward with doing a Podcast that would be effective in  
reaching youth in the community and spreading the word about the Youth Advisory  
Council. Council member Lovelady suggested creating a schedule to do the Podcasts.  
Some topics for different Podcasts included:  
- What is YAC?  
- Interview youth in the Community and ask them what they feel is important to them.  
Members discussed interviewing youth before the next meeting as well as creating a  
survey to send out to students throughout the high schools in Columbia. They also  
discussed meeting with different clubs within CPS to spread the word.  
Youth Summit - March/April 2024  
Members discussed details for the 2024 Youth Summit. The tentative date is set for April  
7, 2023. Shubha Gautam, Helen Hinnant Root, Langston Schatz-Mitchell and Jiya Shetty  
volunteered to be on the Planning Committee.
