I. CALL TO ORDER  
Meeting was called to order at approximately 6:02p.m.

II. INTRODUCTIONS  
None.  
III. APPROVAL OF AGENDA  
Motion to approve the agenda made by Alamin Ahlam, seconded by Harvey  
Munter; motion carried.  
IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES  
September 10, 2024 YAC Minutes

seconded by Harvey Munter; motion carried.  
V. OLD BUSINESS  
Five Areas of Focus  
Members discussed the five areas of focus: drug abuse, mental health, homelessness,  
inclusion welfare, and sustainability. After the discussion the group then decided that  
they would like to add gun violence making it 6 areas of focus. Members then assigned  
working groups which includes: two members to conduct research on each of the six  
areas of focus. This research will be shared in the end of the year annual report.  
Motion to approve time to work in their working groups on the next month’s  
agenda made by Langston Schatz- Mitchell and seconded by Aanya Shetty.  
Motion to have a report to present to the group for each area of focus made by  
Emily Crumbliss and seconded by Mira Tosh drafted third Monday of December  
16, 2024  
2025 Youth Summit Discussion  
Members collaborated on what they thought the mission and slogan should be for YAC.  
Mission Statement:The mission of the Youth Advisory Council is to empower the youth of  
our community to get involved and develop the skills necessary to lead a better future.  
Slogan for the 2025 Youth Summit: Empowering and Connecting Columbia’s Youth.  
Member’s Brainstormed a list of organizations to invite to the 2025 Youth Summit.  
Members Discussed inviting one or two organizations that relate to the six areas of focus  
to have a booth at the 2025 Youth Summit. Discussed potential dates for the summit;  
April 5, 12, or 19th 2025 from 12:00pm-4:00pm. Possible location could be Stephens  
Lake, inviting 20 booths and performers. Youth Advisory Council Liaison Lekel Lyons will  
reach out to the Creative Services and Marketing Manager Brian Adkission to look into  
advertisements for the Youth Summit. Members discussed inviting the Mayor, and  
Council to the Summit. Members agreed to have a 5 minute speech about YAC during  
the Summit.  
VI. NEW BUSINESS  
Mock City Council Meeting - Staff  
Members discussed when was the best time to have a mock City Council Meeting. They  
decided to focus on Youth Summit planning and have a mock City Council Meeting after.  
Motion to have a Mock city council meeting after the Summit made by Aanya  
Shetty and Alamin Ahlam.  
Annual Report to City Council  
Youth Advisory Council Liaison Lekel Lyons will scan and send in an example of a  
previous Annual Report to YAC members.  
VII. GENERAL COMMENTS BY PUBLIC, MEMBERS AND STAFF  
Members would like to discuss at the next YAC meeting who should attend upcoming  
City Council Meetings and would like this item to be added to the agenda.
