II. COLUMBIA PUBLIC SCHOOLS UPDATE
Columbia Public Schools (CPS) Update
Dr. Jeff Klein, Superintendent, provided the update for the Columbia Public Schools
(CPS). He shared some statistics about CPS, along with programs that make CPS
unique. He invited Suzette Waters with the Board of Education shared information on how
charter schools could affect public schools.
III. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE UPDATE
Columbia Chambers Past, Present, and Future
Lily White-Boyd, Vice President of External Affairs, shared updates for the Chamber of
Commerce. She shared information on the history of the Chamber, how our Chamber
compares against others around the country, and upcoming Chamber programs and
initiatives.
IV. CITY OF COLUMBIA UPDATE
Public Safety Update
Brian Schaeffer, Fire Chief, and Jeremiah Hunter, Assistant Police Chief, shared updates
for the City. Schaeffer shared information on the Fire Department and how the City is
utilizing available data to improve efficiency. Hunter shared a brief update from the Police
Department, particularly focusing on safety in downtown.
V. BOONE COUNTY UPDATE
Boone County Update
Presiding Commissioner Kip Kendrick shared updates from Boone County. He updated
the group on the senior property tax freeze, the Law Enforcement Training Center
upcoming opening, and updates on several capital projects. He highlighted the Early
Learning Center for first responders, and invited Childcare Safety Director, Amy Hayes, to
speak on the project.
