Council and Staff networked over breakfast.
II. CALL TO ORDER (10:00 a.m.)
Meeting was called to order at approximately 10:00 a.m.

III. WELCOME AND INTRODUCTIONS
The retreat began with the City Council and staff introducing themselves and sharing an
expectation for
their time together.
IV. DAY 1 TENTATIVE TOPICS OF DISCUSSION:

Norms and Expectations for the Retreat
Facilitators, Council members and staff introduced themselves. The facilitators reviewed
the agenda and discussed norms and expectations for the retreat.
Council Roles
Participants worked in small groups to discuss what Council members like about their
role on City Council and what they like less, along with specific tasks that support or
elicit these feelings.
Your One Thing and Council Hot Topics
Each member of the City Council was asked to share the “One Thing” they hope to see
through to fruition in the next two years and respond to the following questions:
• Why is it important to you?
• How does this align with the City’s Strategic Plan?
• Why do you believe it is important to Columbia?
• Why do you believe it should be important to your Council colleagues?
