The Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) Amateur World Championships were
held in August at multiple locations, with Harmony Bends and Albert Oakland Park
serving as the primary sites with one course in Jefferson City utilized. He noted that with
13 countries were represented, with a parade of nations at the opening ceremonies. The
State Historical Society of Missouri, which houses the Midwest Disc Sports Collection,
hosted a reception for the event.
Ziervogel stated that the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA) Coaches
Clinic took place at Columbia College on September 18-19, drawing approximately 600
coaches. He added that, after coordinating with the basketball schedule, MBCA will host
the Norm Stewart Classic on December 5-6 at Mizzou Arena.
Ziervogel reported that the Missouri Interscholastic Cycling League held its Cranking at
the Creek event at Gans Creek Recreation Area’s new mountain bike course on
September 20-21. Gabe Huffington plans to attend the regional championships in
Arkansas to explore the possibility of Gans Creek hosting the event in the future on a
two-year rotation with Arkansas.
Missouri Sports Travel Exchange Tradeshow Planning
The Missouri Sports Travel Exchange Tradeshow will be hosted in early March,
registration has opened. There will be two education sessions, one from
Special Olympics Missouri on their new unified sports competitions and one
from local communications professionals titled "Telling Your Story." Ryan Rapp
and Eric Morrison will speak on updates from Mizzou and the University at the
Luncheon.
Sports Sales Activities
Ziervogel and Riddle with the CVB held a sales call with League One Volleyball
(LOVB), which is exploring opportunities to collaborate with clubs in St. Louis
and Kansas City on a clinic or potential tournament. The event would be open to
all clubs, not just those affiliated with LOVB.
Ziervogel also reported that there was not enough interest from Missouri Youth
Soccer Alliance (MYSA) groups to move forward with a futsal event.
Ziervogel announced that tickets are now on sale for the NCAA Cross Country
Championship. So far, 350 tickets and 80 parking passes have been sold, with
sales expected to spike once participating teams are announced. He stated the
event does not sell out, but previous championships have sold between 5,000
and 5,500 ticket and around 2,000 parking passes. Mizzou required 150
volunteers for the event. Teams are expected to begin arriving as early as
Tuesday or Wednesday.
Ziervogel informed everyone he will be going to the Travel, Events And
Management in Sports (TEAMs) conference in Columbus, Ohio from October
13-16.
