Recommendation of funding distribution for FY25
Discussion of the process of making the annual distribution recommendation. Dresser
consulted with the Community Foundation on the total the fund would be able to allocate
this calendar year, with the maximum being $16,856. This number it based on the
interest income from the previous calendar year. Our current balance in the fund as of the
meeting date is $355,207.54.
Discussion regarding how the funding process will work if additional funds are provided by
City Council.
A motion was made by to distribute $16,500 from the Columbia Arts Fund for 2024
made by Moxon, seconded by Murphy; motion carried.
Fundraising plans
The Committee discussed fundraising activities throughout the year which includes the
Celebration of the Arts and CoMoGives. Last year the Celebration netted a little over
$15,000 and CoMoGives around $2100. Dresser mentioned that pre-Covid, the committee
had discussed ideas for a larger endowment campaign, but since the pandemic has held
back on initiating such a campaign as many local organizations are trying to raise and
maintain their own funds to continue to operate. The committee discussed that it still
does not feel like the time to begin such a campaign, and focusing on the annual
activities with the Celebration and CoMoGives is suitable for the moment. If the Office of
Cultural Affairs has increased core funding in its City budget in future years, the
committee may look at different strategies for both raising funds as well as making
distributions from CAF.
Dresser also stated that since the Community Foundation of Central Missouri has a new
Executive Director, she plans to meet with him to get him up to speed as well as ask if
he has any insights for growth of the fund. Murphy mentioned that estate giving could be
an untapped resource. The committee also suggested that inviting the new executive
director to a future meeting would be beneficial.
