A. Annual Most Notable Properties Schedule
Commissioner Bybee indicated that he would like to re-establish a regular
schedule for the Most Notable Properties program, commencing in August with
accepting applications through the end of November. Voting would take place at
the January meeting each year, and the event would be held in late May.
He also suggested that Commissioners look to diversify the applicant pool to
include landscapes, landmarks, events, etc... not just structures.
B. Most Notable Properties Publication
This item was tabled until Commissioner Ott is able to attend for discussion of his
vision for the project.
C. Importance of Commissioner Engagement
Commissioner Bybee discussed the importance of Commissioner engagement in
events and meetings held by the Commission, and asked what types of activities
would increase engagement and participation among Commissioners and
members of the public. HE estimated that each Commissioner should commit to
3-5 hours per month outside of our normal meeting times to help with projects
and events.
VIII. OLD BUSINESS
A. BillionGraves Project - Publicizing
Liaison Palmer noted that he would be taking part in the Billion Graves project
on June 25th by photographing and transcribing his family gravesites. He
reminded Commissioners to please help spread the word for the project as we
near the day of the event.
B. Alspaugh Property Photos
Commissioner Bybee reported on his recent visit to the property with staff
members from Parks & Recreation, and he shared photos from the visit.
IX. GENERAL COMMENTS BY PUBLIC, MEMBERS AND STAFF
Commissioner Bybee discussed the ongoing challenges with the Commission's
architectural salvage efforts. He indicated that there is a lack of storage space for
new items, and limited time to undertake new salvage projects.
He asked that the Commission consider their goals for the salvaged materials for
discussion at a future meeting. He also suggested that a partnership with the
CoMo Preservation group may be worth discussing with them in the near future.
Mr. Palmer reminded the Commission to keep reviewing their duties and
responsibilities, indicating that more discussion will take place as the
preservation planning process begins.
Mr. Bybee also reported some preliminary findings on the property at 1611
University Avenue, which may indicate that the property once belonged to a
member of the Knight Family, who owned Knight's Drugstore. He plans to do
more research on the property as time permits.
X. NEXT MEETING DATE
Commissioners discussed potentially moving their July meeting to Wednesday
the 5th, due to the holiday. Mr. Palmer made note and indicated that he would
work with Event Services to secure a meeting room and confirm the date.
